Ancient Alternative Remedies

As with manufactured drugs, some natural ingredients may prove harmful if taken in improper amounts, or mixed with other ingredients or medicines, so care should be taken.

Ginger root is one of the most well known remedies for nausea and stomach maladies. It has been used for centuries in China and India , because of its anti-emetic properties. If fresh or dried ginger root is not available, capsules may be used. Ginger also comes in teas, tinctures and powders. To make ginger tea, boil water and add a teaspoon of grated ginger. Let the tea boil for five minutes, strain and drink. Ginger ale also works in a pinch.

Ancient alternative remedies also include practices such as acupressure, massage, Chiropractic care, meditation, deep breathing techniques, yoga and prayer. A recent government study shows that thirty six percent of adults in the United States use some form of complementary and alternative medicine. The study shows that ancient alternative remedies are used most often to treat back or neck pain, colds, joint pain or stiffness and depression.
