How Oils Helps Me Control My Blood Pressure

After you have been diagnosed by a doctor as having high blood pressure, there are many things you can do to control your blood pressure, aside from going on medication. Indeed, if your blood pressure is only moderately high, your doctor may suggest trying to fix the problem with diet, exercise, and other means before starting high blood pressure medication.

Essential fatty acids, or EFA's, are an important part of your overall strategy to reduce your blood pressure without resorting to medication. One type of oil that may be especially useful for controlling your high blood pressure is Flaxseed oil. Flaxseed oil helps prevent and treat high blood pressure by inhibiting the inflammation and irritation that can cause your arteries to harden. Flaxseed oil also seems to have properties that promote healthy circulation within your body, which is very important in reducing blood pressure. Flaxseed oil also contains lots of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 is the EFA that has gotten all the attention in the past couple of years. Although fatty fish like salmon is a good source of omega-3, it is also plentiful in flaxseed oil. Omega-3 fatty acids make blood platelets less likely to stick together, a condition that, in addition to wrecking havoc on blood pressure, can also lead to blood clots and heart attacks.

Lots of other EFA's have been shown to lower blood pressure. Among these, DHA has been shown to significantly reduce blood pressure when it is in a purified form. GLA, as is found in primrose oil and borage oil, has also been shown to lower blood pressure. This may sound like a lot of oil to take, but you may be able to find combination pills that include all or several of these types of oils. For best results and proper absorption, experts recommend taking EFA supplements with food.
